Meet the Bikes

Our bikes are an extension of us and how we've learned to travel. Light and easy. Biking has simply emerged as a big part of our lives and has given us a new perpective on traveling. Having a good reliable bike is a must. A good fit is a must as well. The more you like your bike the more enjoyable riding will be. Take a look at how we are doing it. Not that it will be right for you.........Do your own thing!!

Sooo for the technically minded, meet our beloved bicycles.

The bicycles are custom built touring steel framed bicycles with S&S couplers. They were built by Zak Hinderyckx of Port Townsend, Washington. The S&S couplers allow us to dissemble, not fold, the bikes and pack them into a case that is the largest allowable luggage without fees on an airline.

The following list is how we fit them out. Both bikes are similar other than size.

1) Shimano 105 triple crank with the inner chain ring reduced to a 24 tooth ring.
2)11x36 10 speed Rear Cassette with Shimano long arm mountain bike deraleur.

After playing with different sprockets and cassettes, at our age we absolutely love the low range that the above gearing gives our bicycles. Great for big hills.

3)650b wheels with 42mm Compass - Baby Shoe Pass tires.
4) Carbon Fiber Drop handlebars with Campignola shifters and aftermarket adapters to make them compatible with Shimano.
5) Selle Anatomica leather seats with carbon fiber seat post to help dappen shock. No extra padding required for the seat or your clothes.
6) Loyal Designs Randonneering handlebar bags on custom Hinderyckx stainless steel front racks
7) Ortleib Bike-Packer Plus waterproof panniers onTubus Fly stainless steel rear rack.
